************  DAYTONA RACES  ***********

We have been getting a LOT of great press about Deltona Arts & Historical volunteers working concessions at the Speedway!  We had 40 volunteers from teens to seniors who worked 12-hour shifts to raise money for our operating costs for 2007.

Many of those 40 were NOT MEMBERS of the Arts Center!

40 volunteers still is NOT ENOUGH to make BIKEWEEK successful!

Mary Parker has done a magnificent job organizing the volunteers, training all to be cooks, food handlers, and cashiers.

All of us who volunteered agree that it was far more fun than we anticipated.  There is still time to join our ‘RACE TEAM’.

Volunteers are needed for……

Everyday between March 2nd through March 11th.

Just think… 40 volunteers manned 1620 hours

This is just tooooooo much to ask 40 volunteers!!!

EACH of you reading this newsletter NEEDS to check your calendar and sign up for just ONE day between March 2 – 11.

When 20 people start showing up EVERY day it makes our volunteer work easier.

When there are ENOUGH volunteers at the Speedway, it makes it easier to take breaks and enjoy the raceway and not leave half dead!!

It is NOT FAIR to those of the Arts Center that understand the resources and opportunities the Arts Center GIVES to everyone that comes to the Center and  partakes and enjoys what the Arts Center GIVES to the community.

The Speedway Volunteers did an ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL JOB in the concession stands. It is not hard work, it is fun work because we get to know each other and enjoy the unity as we all strive to keep the Deltona Arts & Historical Center’s Door open so you can continue to enjoy and utilize the efforts the Art Center gives.

Even if you cannot physically show up at the Speedway, you know others that can come in your place. Put your thinking caps on and GIVE VOLUNTEER HOURS to the Center

We have TWO CONCESSIONS STANDS!!

This is a wonderful opportunity for us that many don’t get

Let’s not blow it!

This opportunity can be taken away from us if we don’t step up to the plate

to SEIZE this opportunity

WOW- GREAT POW WOW

HISTORY

We had a great article about the History of Deltona in the News Journal. The History of DELTONA belongs to us all.  Preservation of Deltona’s past matters for the future.  Scrapbooks, clippings and other precious items of history are stored in boxes in the Art Center.  The History Room looks disorganized; because it is.  The fragments of our history desperately need someone to organize and catalogue these valuable artifacts.   A partnership with the University of Central Florida will result in a book and video history of our city.   WE ARE asking FOR A PERSON OR ORGANIZATION to take on this project.  You need not be a historian or librarian; just have a willing heart and some time to tackle this project.  COME TALK WITH US.
